Escape the city and experience some incredible views in Cold Spring, New York!

After riding the scenic train along the Hudson River from Grand Central, we will begin our day walking through Cold Spring to get to the trailhead. The hike will be a moderately to slightly challenging (depending on experience) trek to the top. It will be a 5 mile loop. The walk will be in a wooded area and steep, so please wear suitable outdoor shoes, long pants, and bring a lot of water. Along our route, we will see ruins of the Cornish Estate and an old abandoned quarry.

Afterwards, we will explore the town of Cold Spring, depending on the time, and all that is has to offer! From quaint antique shops, cafes, and a lovely waterfront, it will be the perfect chance to see it all before returning to the city.

Ticket does not include lunch or your train ticket. We encourage you to bring lunch and eat it when we reach the top of the mountain. Happy trails!

The Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference (NAFAC) has been held annually since 1960. The conference is a mix of speeches and panels featuring high-ranking military and civilian leaders, as well as discussion roundtables and social events. Past speakers have included former U.S. Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. At discussion sessions, delegates will have the opportunity to react to speeches, meet other delegates, and guide conversations by sharing ideas on many subtopics related to the conference theme. Around 1-3 international delegates will be assigned to each roundtable, along with student delegates from civilian and military institutions from around the United States.

One To World’s delegation plays a special role in this foreign affairs conference. By adding a critical international perspective to student deliberations on U.S. foreign policy, they enrich the conference with various national and cultural perspectives, as well as their academic experience. In turn, American undergraduate conference participants and midshipmen from the Naval Academy share their cultural, political, and social views with One To World’s delegates in an exciting academic intercultural exchange.

The NAFAC fee is $200. This fee covers the registration fee, round-trip transportation from NYC, accommodations, and most meals. Delegates are responsible for any spending money they may require for souvenirs, snacks or other items. Possible sponsorships are available.

Want to volunteer at a local nonprofit? At this event, you will be working in a commercial kitchen to help prepare high-quality meals for people unable to do so themselves. You will experience the efficiency of the assembly line and the power of working with a common goal in mind! Afterwards, there will be an optional lunch to further socialize.

God’s Love We Deliver cooks and home-delivers nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves. All of their services are provided free and full of love to people in need. Volunteers will be in the kitchen helping on-staff chefs with a variety of projects. You will receive instructions from the staff member for the project of the day. Tasks may include packaging meals, chopping onions, making meatballs, ladling soup, peeling potatoes, scooping baked goods or preparing fresh herbs.

Watch the world famous New York Yankees play in the Bronx, NY. With some of the best players in the world, including the captain Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and the new addition of Juan Soto, you will watch them compete in a live MLB baseball game against the Oakland A’s, featured in the film Moneyball. Gerrit Cole, the Yankees Ace, just won the 2023 CY Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League. Who knows, maybe you will catch a foul ball to take home as a souvenir!

One To World has reserved a block of 70 seats, so in addition to watching the action on the field, you will have the opportunity to learn the game of baseball together and talk with other students who attend universities in the New York area!

Join us for a day at the United Nations! Not only will you participate in an hour-long guided tour of this renowned institution, but you will also have the unique opportunity to attend a private briefing led by a UN Peacekeeping Communications Officer with field experience primarily in Africa. 

She will be discussing her past Peacekeeping operations in Sudan, South Sudan, East Timor, Western Sahara, and Syria. After listening to the briefing and asking questions, you will have the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Reality experience about a Special Political Missions in either Colombia or the Democratic Republic of Congo. The holiday season is a time for kindness, generosity, and good deeds. Join your fellow international students to spend an evening distributing food, clothing, and personal care items to the homeless population of New York City. We’ll be partnering with the non-profit organization, Midnight Run, to help New Yorkers in need. The evening will start out at the One To World office where we will assemble bagged meals. Afterwards, we’ll head out into the city to meet Midnight Run staff to distribute the food. This is a great way to have conversations with and learn about the homeless residents of NYC in a safe and welcoming environment.
