Museum Visit: Liberty Science Center in Jersey City

Have you ever looked up at the sky and wondered what exists beyond? This November, One to World wants to bring the universe to our student community! Join us on a museum trip to the Liberty Science Center (LSC), where you will have the chance to visit various science exhibitions and utilize numerous educational resources to explore the beauty of nature.

At LSC, you will get to witness the original Hoberman sphere designed by Chuck Hoberman and the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere - the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, featuring incredible 3D shows of the night sky and distant galaxies!

LSC is an interactive learning center of science and technology that intends to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, located at the Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. It contains 12 museum exhibition halls, including a live animal collection with 110 species, giant aquariums, live simulcast surgeries, hurricane-and-tornado-force wind simulators, and many more interesting exhibits. There will also be free time to explore the museum on your own before returning back to the city as a group.

One To World Tour: Visit to St. John the Divine

Here is your chance to participate in a 60-minute guided tour to view one of the most famous churches in NYC--- the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and its amazing architectural aesthetics, to hear about its history and cultural significance through in-depth story-telling.

You'll also have the unique opportunity to participate in a conversation after the tour with Frank Brown, the President of the church's board and Advisory Director of General Atlantic. Beyond his affiliation with St. John the Divine, Mr. Brown has a diverse background in global risk management, leading an international business school, a 26-year career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and much more, so you are encouraged to come prepared with questions!

From this experience, you’ll learn all about the church’s original design conception, and its transformation and construction by seeing examples of architectural features that demonstrate Gothic Revival architecture. From its design conception in 1888, to its opening just one week before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, you’ll leave with a greater understanding of the church’s historic importance in New York City.

This is a great opportunity to go beyond the famous sites of the city and learn about New York life and culture through the eyes of the people who live here.

Virtual Meet-Up: Story Circles

Build up your resilience through the development of intercultural competencies with Story Circles! Story Circles is a group of people who share stories in response to a particular topic in a structured way that encourages full and authentic participation in both listening to and sharing personal stories.

At this event, each participant will take turns sharing responses to pre-determined prompts and reacting to what other students share. The prompts will be provided in advance to give you time to gather your thoughts. Each prompt will revolve around your own unique cultural experiences and won’t require any additional research or preparation. Dr. Frank Dolce, designer of these virtual story-sharing events, will facilitate the story-sharing session.

This is your chance to make lasting connections with other students, share your story, and learn about other cultures represented in the program.
