New York Rangers Hockey Game

Let's go Rangers! Spend the night at the famous, Madison Square Garden, cheering on the NY Rangers as they play an exciting game of ice hockey against the Boston Bruins! One To World has reserved an entire section of 40 seats, so in addition to enjoying the game, you will also have a chance to meet other American and international students from your university and universities all over the New York area!

 

Watch a new sport with new friends, try a stadium snack, and drink a nice cold beer or soda: the perfect way to check things off your NYC bucket list and see some action on the ice!

One To World Walk: Holiday Journey in Manhattan

The holiday season in New York City can't be beat! Featured in both classic and slightly more modern movies alike, this time of year is truly special in the city. To celebrate, join One To World on a holiday themed walk through the heart of Manhattan. We'll visit the iconic Macy's storefront, the Rockefeller Christmas tree, and more!

 

All while sipping on some delicious hot cocoa to keep us warm and festive.

 

This is a perfect opportunity to meet other international students, while checking some items off your New York Must-Do list! Bundle up and join us to get in the holiday spirit.

Community Service: Help Supply Those in Need II

The holiday season is a time for kindness, generosity, and good deeds. Join your fellow international students to spend an evening distributing food, clothing, and personal care items to the homeless population in New York City. For the second time this month, we'll be partnering with the non-profit organization, Midnight Run, to offer New York's homeless personal goods and good will. The evening will start in One To World's office to assemble the bagged meals, then we'll head out into the city to meet Midnight Run staff to distribute the food. This is a great way to have conversations with and learn about the homeless residents of NYC in a safe and welcoming environment.

One To World Welcome Cruise

Welcome back to New York! Experience stunning views of the city while enjoying the best songs from around the world on One To World's first ever welcome cruise this October! You've likely absorbed the famous Manhattan skyline from the popular Staten Island Ferry, or from visits to other boroughs, but have you enjoyed these views on a party boat with a few hundred new and existing friends?

Celebrate the beginning of a new academic year by dancing the night away on the ship deck with a live DJ, 300 international students, and other friends of One To World!

 

 

Yale University Tour & Football Game

Looking to take a day trip and get out of NYC? Join us as we spend the day in New Haven, Connecticut on Yale University's campus! We'll get a crash course in American Football before watching a matchup between Yale and Howard University. We will also have brunch with Yale international students and tour the campus. Yale University is a private Ivy League University. Founded in 1701 as the Collegiate School, it is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and among the most prestigious in the world. This is a once in a lifetime, unique opportunity to visit a famous university full of history, attend an American football game, and enjoy the beautiful Autumn foliage in Connecticut.

 

Day Trip Itinerary: 

9:30am - Arrive in New Haven, CT

9:45am - Tour of New Haven

10:30am - Mix & Mingle during brunch with Yale international students while listening to a presentation about American football and football history at Yale University

12:00pm - Football Game: Yale University vs. Howard University

2:30pm - Time to shop at the Yale Bookstore

3:00pm - Yale University Campus Tour

4:30pm - Free Time

6:30pm - Leave New Haven, CT

Outdoor Movie Night in Bryant Park

Summer is almost over and you don't want to let the season pass before experiencing an outdoor movie in a New York City park!

 

One To World is gathering a group of students to enjoy Grease 2 on August 8th. We will provide snacks and drinks, and there will be other food available for purchase for those interested.

One To World Walk: The Squares – Union to Madison

Don't miss our 2nd walking tour of the semester! We'll be spending time in Gramercy Park and the Flatiron District and explore the urban design principles that inspired the city grid. We will also learn how public parks like Madison and Union Squares were built to accommodate irregular spaces in the process of urban development. This is a special opportunity to gain insight into the architectural evolution of NYC from 1811 to today, while getting to know the city from a new perspective!

 

Our guide, William Singer, AIA, is the Chief Plan Examiner for The City of New York Department of Buildings and an expert in the design and construction of large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers, transportation hubs, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings he was a partner at Gruzen Samton, a NYC & Virginia-based architecture, planning, interior design and systems engineering firm. A Fulbright fellow (Slovenia, 1993-94), he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University, as well as a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2004, Singer received a City of New York Arts Commission Excellence in Design for the renovation design of El Museo Del Barrio.

 

In the case of rain, the event will be held one week later on September 18th.

One To World Walk: Mid-Century Modern Along 53rd Street

It's almost impossible to walk through midtown Manhattan without straining your neck looking up at the tall buildings. The beautiful skyscrapers and unique designs are part of what gives New York its unique character.

 

Join us on our third architecture tour of the semester to learn more about modern midtown's stunning design from our guide William Singer. William Singer, AIA, is the Chief Plan Examiner for The City of New York Department of Buildings and an expert in the design and construction of large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers, transportation hubs, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings he was a partner at Gruzen Samton, a NYC & Virginia-based architecture, planning, interior design and systems engineering firm. The Upper East Side neighborhood has gained much of its international fame from movies and TV shows like Gossip Girl and Sex & the City. It's also home to glamorous landmarks such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 998 Fifth Ave, Park Avenue, and the Cherokee Apartments that we will be exploring on our walk. Our guide will share many stories about how NYC's history is etched into its buildings!
