One To World Walk: The Two Squares – Union to Madison

Are you curious about the urban design principles that shaped NYC? Don't miss our next walking tour!

We'll be spending time in Gramercy Park and the Flatiron District to explore the concepts behind the city grid. We will also learn how public parks like Madison and Union Square were built to accommodate irregular spaces. This is an interactive opportunity to gain insights into the architectural evolution from 1811 to the present. You will gain a new perspective and appreciation for urban planning!

Our guide, William Singer, AIA, is a Code and Zoning Specialist for The City of New York Department of Buildings Development and Technical Affairs. He is an expert in the design and construction of large-scale public facilities. His major projects have included justice centers, transportation hubs, and cultural centers. Before joining the Department of Buildings he was a partner at Gruzen Samton, a NYC & Virginia-based architecture, planning, interior design and systems engineering firm. A Fulbright fellow (Slovenia, 1993-94), he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University, as well as a Master of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2004, Singer received a City of New York Arts Commission Excellence in Design for the renovation design of El Museo Del Barrio.

In case of rain, the event will be held one week later on June 25th.

Virtual Meet-Up: Story Circles

Build up your resilience through the development of intercultural competencies with Story Circles! Story Circles is a group of people who share stories in response to a particular topic in a structured way that encourages full and authentic participation in both listening to and sharing personal stories.

At this event, each participant will take turns sharing responses to pre-determined prompts and reacting to what other students share. The prompts will be provided in advance to give you time to gather your thoughts. Each prompt will revolve around your own unique cultural experiences and won’t require any additional research or preparation. Dr. Frank Dolce, designer of these virtual story-sharing events, will facilitate the story-sharing session.

This is your chance to make lasting connections with other students, share your story, and learn about other cultures represented in the program.
