One To World Hike: Devil’s Den Preserve and Visit to Ridgefield, CT
December 15 @ 8:00 am - 7:00 pm
$20.00Want to go hiking and visit a small colonial town in Connecticut?
After taking a train from Manhattan, it’s a quick drive to this beautiful preserve. Although we’re nearly in winter and the leaves have fallen off most of the deciduous trees, the air is crisp and the forest is very much alive. Its 1,746 acres is one of the larger preserves in the metropolitan New York area, and its name comes from local lore. Apparently, charcoal makers said that a hoof-like mark on a boulder was the footprint of the Devil!
The hike will be moderately challenging, depending on your prior experience. Our plan is to hike around 8 miles which will take around 4 hours. It’s in a wooded area with varied terrain, so please to wear suitable outdoor clothes/footwear, and bring water. Afterwards, we will explore the small town of Ridgefield, a short drive away. We will grab some warm refreshments and snacks before returning to the city, maybe even stopping at a brewery.
Ticket does not include lunch or train ticket. We encourage you to bring lunch and eat it when we stop for a food break while hiking. Happy trails!
