Cultural Cuisine @Bersi (Ethiopian Restaurant)

Join us for our Cultural Cuisine program! Get together and enjoy New York’s vibrant restaurant landscape on a student budget. Whether you are a dedicated foodie, especially interested in one cuisine, or simply looking to make new friends and spend the evening with a group of students, come and partake!
This April, we will be dining at Bersi Ethiopian Restaurant. This Brooklyn restaurant offers plant-based, rich and flavorful traditional Ethiopian cuisine! As read on their website: “We are proud of our cultural legacy, and are excited to bring a millennia old vegan culinary history to your plate!”.
Although Ethiopian meals are traditionally family-style, the restaurant generously offered to have each guest pick items from a extensive pre-set menu and then get an individual plate to sample what they like best!
The menu created for our group will include:
- The famous Ethiopian injera
- Misir Wot – slow-simmered red lentils in berbere spice
- Engudaye Tibs – sautéed mushrooms with onion, garlic, and Ethiopian spices
- Atir Kik Alicha – yellow split peas stewed with turmeric, garlic, and ginger
- Tikel Gomen – cabbage and carrot sautéed with onion
- Defen Misir – whole lentils simmered with herbs and warm spices
- Key Sir – sautéed red beets and potatoes
- Shiro – chickpea stew with garlic and berbere spice
- Gomen – slow-braised kale with garlic and onion
- Bersi Rice – fragrant berbere-spiced rice
- Tofu Tibs – sautéed tofu with onions, peppers, garlic, and berbere
Come taste a vibrant and bold Ethiopian meal, and delight to the flavor of berbere spice!
